Defining appropriate ways of increasing the participation of people for organizing and empowerment of poor and informal settlements (Case Study: Tabriz Khalilabad quarter)

One of the main problems of the urban environments is trending rural and urban low-income people to the marginal parts of cities and the growth of "informal settlements" to avoid uneven economic and urban inequality. One example of this type of settlements is Tabriz Khalil Abad quarter. One of the most important approaches and strategies that have been proposed to deal with this phenomenon is "Empowerment" that enormously emphasis the "participation" of local residents of these places. In the present study aimed to evaluate informal settlements in the neighborhood of Khalilabad Tabriz and provide appropriate solutions to increase public participation in its empowerment. It utilizes scientific methods to research and gather information. The survey, questionnaire and interview were used. Level of willingness and capacity of the local population regarding the participation rate were measured. Of the 6075 households of the quarter(Iran 2006) 400 households were randomly chosen and interviewed. The information and data is analyzed through descriptive statistics
