چکیده مقاله
Box-columns are widely used in regions with high seismic risk, such as Iran. Also, bolted extended end-plate moment connections because of easy fabrication and fast erection are frequently used in moment frames. But there are some problem to use bolted extended endplate connections to connect I-beams to box-columns, such as inaccessibility to inside of boxcolumns in order to fastening the bolts. In this paper, a connection configuration is proposed, to eliminate this problem. In this connection model a short stub beam is used to connect Ibeam to box-column by bolted end plate connection. In a numerical test program, the behavior of this connection is investigated under the cyclic loading. First, the finite element modeling which is used in this investigation, is described. To validate this finite element method, an end-plate connection model is stablished and the results that obtained from finite element is compared with results of an experimental investigation. Future eight specimen in two group of four bolt unstiffened extended end-plate connection and eight bolt stiffened extended end-plate connection, are created under the cyclic loading. Finally the results are
compared with AISC seismic provision’s requirements. All specimens in this program are achieved to 0.05 rad total story drift and satisfy these requirements
