Economic Evaluation of Household Waste Recycling

Recycling is the most important way to reduce the waste problem and means the control of waste quantity and quality. In this study, the household waste project of Abadan city is economically evaluated through physical analysis of waste components and based on 2010 and 2011 data of Recycling Organization of Abadan Municipality and using economic evaluation indicators such as net present value (NPV) and internal ratio of return. Results showed that according to certain indicators particularly NPV, recycling is applicable when the state funds are received. In other words, state and local organizations such as Abadan Municipality should support recycling by injecting low interest rate grants (below %16). In sensitivity analysis, this rate is less than %12 which further reveals the necessity of government’s supportive attitude.
