Issues In Photovoltaic-Inverter-Penetrated Medium Voltage Network

 The usage of PhotoVoltaic (PV) systems in distribution networks increases rapidly, especially for residential usage. Such small scale generation connected to low and medium voltage conventional network that are not designed to accommodate distributed generation pose various challenges. One of the most important issues is voltage rise due to PV uptake and its impact on voltage regulation. The aim of this paper is to investigate the effects in voltage fluctuation, power flows and power and energy loss of Medium Voltage (MV) network after being injected by power from PV inverters or PV power plant. Further, a new model is presented to study some behaviour of MV network regarding to PV penetration, such as active and reactive power flow, MV networks loading, daily load profile, and substation load profile, and a solution to deal with the negative impacts of PV uptake on voltage regulation. The representative network has been extracted from a real grid data and all assessments are carried out using simulated in DIgSILENT power factory.
