Design and Analysis of a Diffuser Augment Horizontal Axis Tidal Turbine

چکیده مقاله

Concerns arising from the completion of fossil fuels and energy caused human to look for a solution to extract energy from renewable resources. One of the sources of renewable energy, ocean energy.  Ocean has wide potential for renewable energy in the form of waves, tides, temperature difference between cold water in depth and warm water at surface and difference in salinity in craters of the rivers. Tidal energy is caused by gravitational force of moon on seas. Due to this gravity and circulation of moon around the earth orbit around the earth a flow in fluid is created. There are many ways to obtain the kinetic energy from the flow of fluid. The horizontal axis tidal turbines are one of the many turbines which can extract kinetic energy of the fluid. These turbines technology are similar to horizontal axis wind turbines. In this study, for two reasons, we have discussed the about horizontal axis tidal turbines. First, the horizontal axis wind turbine technology already exists in Iran, and the second, there is enough potential for using tidal energy in aqueous area in south. Since the experimental method is costly and time-consuming, and require some equipment for testing and developing models. While the methods of computational fluid dynamics comparing to experimental tests are fast and cost-effective methods to evaluate the effect of the channel on turbine and finding the correct pattern of the flow passing through the turbine. SST turbulence model presents a correct pattern of behavior of the collision of flow to turbine and its walls. In the process of numerical solution, we have used equations discretization of finite volume method based on networking of finite element. Numerical simulation is a universal method used to optimize and verify the effective parameters.

In this paper, using numerical method for tidal turbine, we have studied the effect of flow amplifier diffusers on received power increment. Hence a diffuser and turbine geometry have been analyzed separately. As a result, we have designed and analyzed a model for turbine with channels, where finally we have demonstrated an increase in power up to 4 times compared to channel less condition.
