Health Centre Design with Healing Garden Approach and Exploiting Nature in Kish Island

Nowadays, the effect of environmental design on human mind is well established. Much has documented on its significant role in the duration of treatment. The incorporation of natural and artificial environments in therapeutic spaces can positively contribute to patients’ treatment process.

Several studies have shown that patients and those who accompany them are likely to experience stress because of long waiting periods in treatment centres. Growing number of studies have given a rise to incorporating nature in the treatment centres. In so doing, they targeted reducing environmental stress and promoting the quality of the environment. This study is an attempt to offer a solution for this problem and facilitate patients’ treatment process by integrating healing garden to therapeutic spaces. The main question is that for building a clinic based on a systematic design, what requirements we need to fulfil?

This paper analyses the healing architecture approach of Persian garden with respect to healing scenery indices and encourages adopting this approach. We hope that by using clean energy and sustainable design- based patterns, we can contribute to sustainability of therapeutic environments.
