A study of spiritual intelligence in delinquent and non-delinquent adolescents in zahedan

Adolescence is a period in which the individual experience a wide range of variations in cognitive, neurobiological and social aspects that can be impressible by many factors. The aim of this study was to compare delinquent and non-delinquent adolescents in their spiritual intelligence variable. this descriptive-analysis study works on two delinquent (N=45) and non-delinquent (N=42) adolescent male groups with the mean age of 16.57years old on Zahedan which were selected by available sampling. In order to measure spiritual intelligence the spiritual intelligence questionnaire of King (2008) was used. The T-test was applied for the comparison of the average subject’s scores in spiritual intelligence components. In relation to the spiritual intelligence the analysis show that there is significant difference between average scores of non-delinquent adolescents and delinquent adolescents in “Personal meaning production” (t = 2.004, p <0.05) and “Transcendental awareness” (t = 2.207, p <0.05) components. In both components the average scores of non-delinquent adolescents was higher than delinquent ones. While no significant difference was observed in other components. the findings suggest that spiritual intelligence variable can be expressive of some characteristics and possible tendencies of adolescents towards delinquency or avoidance of delinquency. As a result, informing parents and educators in order to reinforce this variable can be effective in prevention and treatment of delinquency.
