Compact Dual-Band Branch-Line Coupler Utilizing Novel Topology of Coupled Microstrip Transmission Lines in Combination with CSRRs

A novel topology is developed and proposed to design a super compact dual-band branch-line coupler (BLC) utilizing μ-strip coupled transmission lines (TL) by entering into combination with complementary split ring resonator (CSRR).
It is demonstrated while this proposed layout does not compile with the conventional structure of BLCs, it realizes a same performance with a considerable factor of size reduction.
In the development of the proposed topology, a novel two-port resonator is demonstrated equivalent with a conventional λ/4 TL and afterward, a lucid equivalent L-C circuit is synthesized and simulated for this resonator. Additionally, a novel technique is introduced to shift the two pass bands towards the lower microwave frequencies, and subsequently, reduce the size of suchlike components. A super compact dual-band BLC is analyzed, designed and tested by this technique where a size reduction of around 81% and 90% is reported in comparison with the conventional counterparts.
