Divine and Earthly Power in Moses of Michelangelo

Among numerous interpretations written about Moses statue of Michelangelo (Italian artist in 16th century), Freud interpretation is the most famous. He presented his personal and modern interpretation which is based on the results of two famous researches by Daniel Arasse, art critic and Carina Bromberger, anthropologist, concerning the concepts and the value of semiology of «index finger» in works of art belonging to Renaissance era and anthropological analysis of human hair especially «beard» in various concepts, both of which are seen in Moses statue. some of the features like the «horns» existing in this statue may be interpreted as symbols of «power». The objective of compilation of this article, aside from studying Freud interpretation is to show the main theme of this work as presented by the Italian artist, is to survey details of this statue and to review the harmony between Divine «Power» (psychological mood) and earthy «Power» (physical aesthetics).
