چکیده مقاله
This paper reviews recent research on lightweight and ultra-lightweight concrete with the aid of experimental programme carried out. The lightweight concrete is a best alternative material to cut down the imposed dead loads of a structure. In this paper, compressive strength and dry density test were carried out on different types of lightweight concrete all with similar mix proportion of 1:2:4. An ultra-lightweight concrete of a density of about 600 kg/m3 was developed. Altogether, concretes with densities ranging from 600 to 2230 kg/m3 and the strengths ranging from 1.41 to 27.32 MPa were developed. The results obtained followed the typical non-linear strength vs density relationship as studied in a theory. Concrete with lightweight aggregates were produced with homogenously distributed aggregates without any segregation observed. All the concrete produced were found out to be a suitable and workable material for non-load bearing purposes such as for a filling or insulating purposes.
