چکیده مقاله
In the last decade, the uses of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been considered in microelectronics, nanocomposites and biomedical devices. However, their applications have been coupled with challenges due to the incidents such as aggregation of bundles and non-homogeneous distribution. To overcome these limitations, several solutions have been reported, including functionalization methods lead to surface modification of nanotubes that were noticed in the present research. For this purpose, as-received MWCNTs powder processed by nitric acid treatment to achieve covalent functionalized MWCNTs and characterized by FTIR Spectroscopy. Aqueous dispersions library of as-received MWCNTs, covalent functionalized MWCNTs (MWCNT-COOH) and non-covalent functionalized MWCNTs (SDS added MWCNTs) were designed and built during the ultrasonic process including probe sonicator both ultrasound bath and then purified by centrifuging. The samples were characterized by FE-SEM, EC-meter and UV-vis. spectra. The results demonstrated homogeneous dispersions of both covalent and non-covalent functionalized nanotubes in deionized water. Electrical conductance test illustrated that covalent functionalized nanotubes reduces the conductivity of MWCNTs, but non-covalent ones slightly preserved it. Regarding the importance of the solubility stabilization of CNTs and preserving of their electrical properties, the results of this research are expected to be used in the near future studies in novel applications such as conductive nanocomposites, electronic microchips and biomedical applications particularly, nervous tissue engineering and cells interactions with biomolecules.
