The effect of Total Physical Response and Task-base approach on learning vocabulary and writing

چکیده مقاله

In Iranian Institutes, there is still a gap and need for consideration of writing and vocabulary. Most of the institutes stick to a fixed curriculum. This study aims at evaluating the effect of teaching vocabulary and writing procedures through two different methods, Total Physical Response (TPR) and Task-base approach. These methods have specific features that make them suitable for teaching language to EFL classes. At these methods teacher can engage students’ talents, i.e. pantomime, make sentence, etc, to produce a more communicative atmosphere and higher rate of participation in classrooms. Memorize of vocabulary has been the most difficult part language learners encounter in the process of their language learning and their daily communication. Task-based Approach and TPR, noted in facilitating learning and teaching of these vocabularies. Most students find that they memorize words better if they do something with them. Learning vocabulary and writing are very important parts of learning a language. The more words you know, the more you will be able to understand what you hear and read; and the better you will be able to say what you want to when speaking or writing. By using these methods, vocabularies and writing can be better used, memorized and recalled. Through both qualitative and quantitative exams at the end of the last sessions (questions on vocabulary and writing and questionnaire, writing some essays) students’ abilities were assessed and compared with their own status in previous sessions, with SPSS software. It was made that students are more motivated to EFL process and agree with using these two methods during class.
