چکیده مقاله
The aim of this study is to analysis the Freudian concepts of Id, Ego, and Superego in Goethe’s Faust and Oscar Wilde’s the Picture of Dorian Gray by using Sigmund Freud theories. Freud highlights the importance of the unconscious aspect of the human psyche; he discovers that the bigger part of the mind is the unconscious that the man kinds do not have control on it. In the first part of paper, the researcher focuses on the concept of Id which is the source of libido and life energy in the main characters of these two works and identifies the concept of ego in Faust and Dorian Gray which cannot control the id and ego and it is governed by the reality code. The paper then, emphasizes the concept of super ego which relates social codes, order of parents in the society. In conclusion, the paper argues the destructiveness of hyperactive id in two works mentioned previously
