Experimental Analysis of Explosive Forming Through Male Die Design

This study outlines and presents the results of a series of more than 40 trial and error experimental investigations that led to the establishment of the principles of an innovative method to fabricate torispherical heads. 10 Explosively formed domes usually suffer from some degree of fragility in the convex part and uneven drawing in the cylindrical section. In this study, the vulnerability of the central parts significantly decreased by employing a male die instead of a commonly used female matrix accompanied by optimization of the main parameters of the process. The 15 results also reveal how the formability of the blanket in its outer rim can be improved by using supporter ring, sandwich panel method or grooving the edge of the work pieces.
