Emphatic Function of Lexical Collocations in Persian

The discussion of word combinations has been one of interest for many decades under different titles referred to as idioms, collocations, bundles, with different theoretical approaches to tackle them. This study focuses on one type of combinations specific to Persian language which is popular for emphasizing, exaggerating, rhythmic building of constructions. The type to be discussed here will be different both from a structural as well as a functional point of view and is specific to Persian speech. The work presented here will be an attempt to classify the corpus of data both based on structural as well as functional perspectives. Qualitative data will provide examples for observation and classes of structural bundles will be attached to the appendix of the work. The results of analysis of data revealed interesting categories of data structurally fixed for differing purposes. Additionally, functional classification was formed to display how different parts of speech were combined to make new meanings, placing emphasis, or forming a rhythm which grants the speech structural balance.
