The Effect of Guideline Translation Study on Translation Performance of Iranian Major and Non Majors Learners

چکیده مقاله

 

Translation Studies research trends and methods have often been neglected in modern society of Iran. A considerable number of Iranian translation students, professors, and researchers conduct research programs on different aspects of this nascent discipline. Translation was formerly studied as a language-learning methodology or as part of comparative literature, translation ‘workshops’ and contrastive linguistics courses. Over time the interdisciplinary of the subject has become more evident and recent developments have seen increased specialization and the continued importation of theories and models from other disciplines. For this purpose from among 40 homogenous learners in two different groups were formed. The experimental group had the advantage of attending a course on guideline strategy and a pretest and a post-test were administered at the beginning and at the end of the course. Eight sessions of instruction each lasting for about 55 minutes comprised the whole treatment to the experimental group.  After the treatment, a post-test was conducted to determine learning improvement compared to pre-test.  An independent sample t-test was used as a statistical test. Findings of the study showed that the experimental group outstripped the control group, resulting in null hypothesis rejection.
