Considering Susan Glaspell’s Trifles in the Light of Althusser’s Ideological State Apparatus

Traditionally, the society makes the dichotomy of masculine and feminine, then the cultural construction gave them roles. Being Subjective or subjective form and construct through Luis Althusser’s views of ISA system such as family, religious, law, court, politic, educational system, media, etc. The dominant position holds by masculine with all connotations of rationality, freedom, norm and self-reliance. In Susan Glaspell’s Trifles, the marriage contract reflects the patriarchal ordering contract in a domestic family. And the moral aspect of love seems an artificial emotion which born based on the social customs. It appears to be the social life from the bases, according to the gender contract as a division of ideology in which women are always subordinate to men. This study is going to consider the ISA system in Glaspell’s Trifles.
