Correlation of egg yolk cholesterol and blood serum in some of genetic groups of laying hens

This experiment was carried out to study correlation between yolk and serum cholesterol in some of genetic groups of native laying hens and their comparison with commercial layers. from each group, 40 laying hens were selected randomly, also, 10 commerical layers (Leghorn, Hy-line W-36) wasused. The age of native and commercial hens were 220 and 185 days respectively.The experiment was repeated 3 times, with 21 days interval. At the beginning of the experiment, from each hen one C.C of blood was taken, and two eggs were collected and their cholesterol was determined. The serum cholesterol was determined by the method of Zak. The yolk cholesterol was extracted by the modified method of Floch and then was determined by the method of Zak. Total of 500 serum and 866 eggs samples were analyzed. The results showed that the genetical group had significant (P<0.001) effect on yolk and serum cholesterol, yolk weight and egg weight. Yolk and egg cholesterol were significantly (P<0.001) affected by period of experiment. Shell color had a significant (P<0.05) effect on yolk and egg cholesterol. Correlation between egg weight and yolk weight, yolk weight and egg cholesterol, yolk cholesterol and egg cholesterol were high. But, the correlation between serum and egg cholesterol, serum and yolk cholesterol, egg weight and yolk cholesterol, yolk weight and yolk cholesterol, were negative and low
